Report on Kid Inventors’ Day
Report on Kid Inventors’ Day
-Ms.Vailena Dsouza
‘The greatest invention in the world is the mind of a child.’ – Thomas Edison
Kid Inventors’ Day is a celebration of creativity, imagination and the boundless potential of young minds. Held on 17th January, 2025, in honour of Benjamin Franklin’s birthday, this special day shines a spotlight on the incredible inventions created by children throughout history. From the popsicle to the trampoline, kids have proven time and time again that age is no barrier to innovation. On this day, at Don Bosco High School, in the Primary Section, we celebrated the inventors of tomorrow – the young thinkers, dreamers and problem-solvers who will shape the future with their unique ideas and inventions.
An interactive class discussion and an interesting PPT on the topic kickstarted the ‘Day’. The PPT not only highlighted the reason for celebrating Kid Inventors’ Day but also fun facts about how children have contributed to inventions that have shaped everyday life. The students were amazed to learn that life-changing inventions such as the windshield wipers, ear muffs, Braille, swimming fins, etc. were made by young minds, which sparked great excitement in the classroom. Master Clement Kiny of Std II C remarked, “I always thought that inventors were grown—up or old people. I never imagined that children could be inventors. Hence, I was very impressed when my class teacher, Mrs. Vailena Dsouza, showed us the different inventions done by children.”
To make the ‘Day’ more engaging, the students watched and sang songs about inventions and their inventors. The lively tunes and catchy lyrics encouraged children to think about their own potential inventions. After the songs and PPT, the students participated in well-thought out hands-on experiments which further fuelled their imagination.
“Kid Inventors’ Day is a reminder that creativity knows no age limits. Events like these help develop a growth mindset and a sense of accomplishment, as children realize they are capable of making a difference,” observed Mrs. Mural Rebello, class teacher of Std I C. Endorsing her, Mrs Shahnaaz Abbas commented, “By nurturing children’s curiosity and providing them with opportunities to experiment, we are fostering a future filled with new ideas and solutions to the challenges ahead. Such days go a long way in building life skills in our students and are relevant to the NEP 2020.”
The celebration of Kid Inventors’ Day provided an excellent opportunity to encourage children to think critically, embrace creativity and develop their problem-solving skills. It was a day filled with learning, fun and inspiration, leaving everyone with the powerful message that the future of innovation lies in the hands of today’s curious and inventive minds.
Let’s continue to support and inspire our young inventors because the next breakthrough could be just around the corner – created by the children of today!

“If you make the world better for kids, you make it better for everyone.”

A session on the Protection of Children from Sexual Offenses (POCSO) Act was conducted by Ms. Mohini Joseph Goshi for the primary section staff on 11th January, 2025. The session aimed to raise awareness about the legal framework designed to protect children from sexual offenses and to equip educators with the necessary knowledge to safeguard children in their care. The session covered important topics, including understanding contact and non-contact abuse, promoting smart safety practices for children, and discussing E-safety measures to protect children from online threats.
The session began with an explanation of – Who is a child? and an overview of the POCSO Act, focusing on its purpose and scope. Ms. Mohini emphasized that the Act is designed to protect children under 18 from various forms of sexual offenses, including sexual harassment, assault, and exploitation. Teachers were educated on the different types of offenses covered under the Act and how to recognize the signs of abuse. The importance of understanding the Act’s provisions was highlighted, as it empowers educators to take appropriate actions when they suspect or encounter child abuse. A major focus of the session was on the collective responsibility of parents, teachers, and caregivers in ensuring a safe environment for children. Teachers were encouraged to foster open communication with children, identify signs of abuse, and take prompt action if abuse is suspected. She also highlighted the legal requirement of mandatory reporting, stressing that teachers must report any suspected abuse under the POCSO Act, and informed them of the legal implications of failing to do so.
In addition, teachers were introduced to various reporting mechanisms and support systems available to those facing or witnessing child abuse. Ms. Mohini shared helpline details along with relevant e-portals for reporting abuse. The session also discussed resources like the Sakhi Savitri Committee and the CHIRAG app (Maharashtra State Commission for Protection of Child Rights), which provide additional channels for reporting and following up on cases of abuse. The importance of psychological and emotional support for survivors of abuse was also addressed, with a focus on the rehabilitation services offered by both government and non-governmental organizations.
The session included a highly interactive segment where teachers shared real-life concerns and scenarios related to child safety. Ms. Mohini addressed these concerns, offering clarifications on how to handle challenges in identifying and reporting abuse. To conclude the session on a light and engaging note, a Boom Boom Balloon Game was conducted. This game illustrated the concept of working together to protect what is important, using the metaphor that “We all saved our balloon but we tried to break others’ balloons.” This exercise emphasized the collective responsibility of safeguarding children while ensuring no one is left out of the effort.
Finally, Mrs. Griselda, the Head Teacher, shared insights from a recent LSP training program she had attended, as well as her experiences visiting various schools. She highlighted the significance of activities like reading exercises and math problem-solving to boost the confidence of students, particularly those who struggle with learning. Mrs. Griselda’s reflections reinforced the critical role that teachers play in creating a positive and supportive learning environment. Creating and maintaining a safe environment for children both at school and at home was another key takeaway. Ms. Johncy Varghese, the class teacher of II D said, “This session provided valuable insights on ways of protecting and supporting the students ensuring their safety and wellbeing.”

The opening ceremony began with a vibrant march-past, which captivated the audience with the synchronized hand movements of all the houses, along with the NCC, RSP, and the school troops. Adding a touch of fun and excitement to the occasion was the arrival of the mascot, Mickey Mouse. The event commenced with the lighting of the torch, symbolizing the spirit of sportsmanship, unity, and the ongoing journey of personal growth and achievement.
Mr. Pimple encouraged pupils to give their utmost in every event by formally declaring Sports Day open after the pledge and Sportsman’s Prayer.
Football, rink football, football penalties, basketball, langdee, table tennis, carrom, cricket, badminton, kabaddi, and chess were among the many sports that were played during the two-day event. The pupils were able to showcase their athleticism and talents at each event.

A Saxophone Symphony: Malhaar’s Passionate Journey from School Band to Symphony Orchestra
A Saxophone Symphony: Malhaar’s Passionate Journey from School Band to Symphony Orchestra
Malhaar’s love affair with music began not with a bang, but with a gentle nudge. Though his heart yearned for the rhythmic pulse of the drums, fate, in the form of Saby Sir, introduced him to the captivating world of woodwinds, placing a saxophone in his eager hands. That chance encounter in fifth grade sparked a fire within Malhaar, igniting a musical journey that would take him from school band performances to the prestigious Symphony Orchestra of India.
Early on, under the guidance of Band Master Saby Franco, Malhaar honed his skills, weaving his melodies into beloved tunes like El Cumbachero and American Patrol. But it was his undeniable talent and captivating performance of Katyusha during an audition that truly set him on a remarkable course. In April 2022, the doors of the Symphony Orchestra of India Music Academy swung open, welcoming Malhaar with the promise of exceptional training.
There, under the tutelage of Alexey Yurushkin and Assel Dautpayeva, Malhaar’s passion flourished. He delved deeper into the world of the saxophone, his primary instrument, while simultaneously exploring the intricacies of the piano under Assel’s able guidance. His dedication and talent were undeniable, and by his first assessment, he received a life-changing encouragement from Marat Bisengaliev, the Music Director, to join the Symphony Academy Orchestra in January 2023.
This marked a turning point in Malhaar’s musical odyssey. He graced the stages of Tata Theatre and Prithvi Theatre as part of the SOI Academy Orchestra, his saxophone weaving magic through a captivating repertoire that included the whimsical melodies of Harry Potter and the awe-inspiring themes of Pirates of the Caribbean. But Malhaar’s talents extended far beyond orchestral performances. He triumphed at the regional and national levels of the Furtados Band-It competition in 2022-23 while being part of his school band, The Symphonics, a testament to his exceptional teamwork skills.
His individual brilliance shone even brighter when he tackled the complex melodies of Yakety Sax as a soloist at BAND-IT in Std. 9. The same year, his musical prowess was recognized at the Josephite Festival, where he secured the top spot in the Western Instrumental Individual event.
Malhaar’s dedication to his craft was further acknowledged with the prestigious Fr. Bernard Scholarship for Musician in 2023-24. This talented young musician’s journey culminated in a mesmerizing performance as a soloist with the Symphony Orchestra of India Chamber Orchestra at the Tata Theatre. The audience was captivated by his rendition of Concert Etude by Alexandre Rivchun, a performance that solidified Malhaar’s place as a rising star in the world of music.
Malhaar’s story is not just about exceptional talent and unwavering dedication; it’s a testament to the transformative power of music. From the humble beginnings of a school band to the grandeur
