“By learning about firefighters, students don’t just discover how fires are fought—they discover the courage, teamwork, and dedication it takes to protect a community.”

On 11th February 2026, the enthusiastic students of Grade IV from Don Bosco High School embarked on an educational field trip to the Antop Hill, Fire Brigade Station at Wadala. A total of 153 students accompanied by 7 teachers visited the station to gain first-hand knowledge about firefighters—the brave community helpers who protect us during emergencies.

The visit proved to be an invaluable learning experience. The students were warmly welcomed and introduced to the functioning of a fire station. They had an exciting opportunity to see a fire engine up close and learn about it. They learnt how fire-fighters work during emergencies. The resource person explained the different types of fire equipment like the fire extinguisher and the fire truck and demonstrated how to use a fire extinguisher effectively. Students also learned how firefighters control fires using powerful water hose.

One of the highlights of the visit was watching trainee firefighters perform rope rescue techniques and climbing drills. The demonstration showcased the physical strength, discipline, and teamwork required in this noble profession. The resource person also explained the different types of fires and how firefighters respond to various emergency situations, including fires caused by airplane malfunctions. This real-life exposure helped students understand the challenges firefighters face daily.

“As teachers, our greatest lesson is not only found in books, but in showing our students the real heroes who teach them courage, responsibility, and service through their actions.”, says Mrs. Mohini Goshi sharing her experience of the day.

The field trip not only educated students about fire safety but also instilled in them deep respect and gratitude for community helpers. They learned important values such as teamwork, courage, responsibility, and service to society.

After returning to school, the students expressed their excitement by writing a paragraph about their visit and sharing their experiences in class. They came back enriched with knowledge, inspired by the bravery of firefighters, and filled with enthusiasm.

Indeed, this memorable visit was not just a trip—it was a lesson in courage, service, and community spirit that will remain with them for years to come.
