Session On Skill Based Learning

Ms. Sonia

The sessions on Skill-Based Reading by Ms. Jeneta and Writing Skills by Ms. Christy for Classes 1 to 4 effectively highlighted how language skills can be developed through engaging, interactive, and activity-based strategies. The reading session began with a missing letter activity to build phonics and word recognition, followed by emotion-based reading to improve fluency and expression. A picture-based reading task encouraged learners to form simple sentences, enhancing comprehension and confidence in young learners.

The reading session further included story mapping, where participants arranged pictures, completed missing parts, and read the story in sequence, strengthening their understanding and sequencing skills. It concluded with an error detection activity that promoted critical thinking and grammar awareness. The structured progression from letters to words, sentences, and stories provided teachers with practical strategies to make reading meaningful and effective for all learners.

The writing session complemented this by focusing on developing expression through creative activities. Beginning with a “Speak First” approach, it included tasks like Object Detection, Sentence Building, and Vocabulary Treasure Hunt to enhance sentence formation and word choice. Activities such as Picture Prompt Story Writing and dialogue writing encouraged imagination, creativity, and critical thinking. Overall, both sessions emphasized that language learning is not about memorization but about expression, helping teachers nurture confident readers, writers, and communicators.
