Seeds of Holiness and Mindful Living: Student Retreat 2025
A spiritual and value-based retreat was conducted on 18th September, 2025 for the students of Standards IX and X.
The day began at 8:45 a.m. with a morning prayer in their respective classrooms. The non-Catholic students were shown inspirational videos on topics such as peer pressure, family values, and life lessons. Each video was followed by meaningful discussions, where students reflected on the values learnt and recorded their thoughts in their Morals notebook.
After an hour, the students gathered in Fr. Bernard Hall for the next session conducted by resource persons from the Brahma Kumaris, Mala Didi and Mrs. Supriya Thakkar. They shared deep insights on meditation, mindfulness, and building awareness for a better society. Students were encouraged to make mindful choices, cultivate concentration, and use meditation as a tool for inner peace and clarity.
Towards the end, all students and teachers took a solemn pledge to support the Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan (Drug-Free India Campaign). The retreat was truly enriching, helping students strengthen their moral values, life skills, and self-reflection practices.
Meanwhile, the Catholic students of Standards IX and X attended a retreat led by Brother Royston (Std. X) and Fr. Joyston (Std. IX). The sessions focused on discernment of career options and understanding one’s calling in life.
Brother Royston highlighted that each one of us is called to be prophets and explained the three signs of holiness:
1. Love – a conscious decision to help others grow, beyond boundaries.
2. Wisdom – the ability to choose right over wrong consistently.
3. Inner Freedom – an alert openness to do good without being held back.
Students engaged in reflective exercises through worksheets, exploring how these lessons could be applied in their daily lives. They were reminded that sainthood is possible for anyone, as God has a purpose for every individual even before birth.
Fr. Joyston, in his session, drew special attention to the life of Blessed Carlo Acutis, the young Italian teenager known for his deep love of the Eucharist and his example of holiness in the digital age. Through Carlo’s life, he inspired students to make use of their talents, live with authenticity, and stay rooted in faith even in modern times.
The retreat concluded with a special Mass for the students of both standards, celebrated by Fr. Joyston Machado and Our Rector, Fr. Godfrey D’souza. In his homily, Fr. Joyston encouraged forgiveness, self-reflection, and nurturing relationships.
The day proved to be a meaningful and transformative experience for all, guiding students to deepen their values, grow in faith, and walk towards becoming better individuals and children of God.
