“Real-life exposure helps young learners understand road safety in a simple and meaningful manner.”

On Saturday, 21st February 2026, the enthusiastic students of Grade I from Don Bosco High School, Matunga went on an educational field trip to the Traffic Park at Colaba. The purpose of the visit was to familiarise the young learners with basic traffic rules and to create awareness about road safety through observation and guided participation in a realistic environment.

The students left the school premises at 9:30 a.m. and reached the Traffic Park at approximately 10:30 a.m. They were accompanied by their class teachers along with other supporting teachers, ensuring that the trip was safe, well-organised, and enjoyable. The children were excited as they entered the park and observed the road setup designed to resemble real-life traffic situations.

At the park, students were introduced to traffic lights, zebra crossings, pedestrian pathways, and various traffic signboards. The session was conducted by two instructors, Sir Bise and Sir Rathod, who patiently explained the importance of following road safety rules. They introduced students to the three major categories of road signs — mandatory signs, cautionary signs, and informatory signs — using simple explanations and interactive questioning. The instructors encouraged students to identify familiar signs they had noticed while travelling with their parents.

The children actively participated in role-play activities where they enacted the roles of pedestrians and responsible road users. Through this activity, they practised waiting for traffic signals, crossing at zebra crossings, walking on designated paths, and following traffic instructions carefully. The instructors also explained the role of traffic police in maintaining road discipline and emphasised essential safety habits such as looking both ways before crossing the road and obeying traffic signals.

Students eagerly answered questions, shared their experiences, and demonstrated keen observation throughout the session. As part of the Students’ Corner reflection, Master Lakshy Gupta from Class I D expressed, “I learnt about traffic rules today and how to cross the road safely.” Ms. Mary Fernandes, the Class Teacher of Std. I C, remarked that the visit was highly informative and helped students develop better awareness of road safety and responsible behaviour.

The trip concluded with the students returning to school at 12:00 noon. They went back to their classrooms happy and enriched with new knowledge and meaningful experiences. The educational visit to the Traffic Park proved to be an enjoyable and informative learning experience. It helped students understand the importance of road safety, encouraged responsible habits from an early age, and left a positive and lasting impression on their young minds.
