A comprehensive workshop on Stress Management for Teachers was conducted for the teaching staff of Don Bosco High School, Matunga on 13th June, 2026 by Fr Edison Fernandes sdb, an eminent personality in this field, to enhance their understanding of stress and equip them with practical strategies to maintain their physical, emotional, and mental well-being.
The resource person guided the participants through a series of engaging and insightful sessions designed specifically to address the challenges faced by educators in their professional and personal lives.
The workshop commenced with an introduction to the concept of stress, helping teachers understand its nature, causes, and impact on overall health. The sessions on Stress Psychophysiology and Stress and Illness provided valuable insights into how stress affects the body and mind, emphasizing the importance of recognizing early warning signs and symptoms.
The participants were introduced to various intervention techniques, including intrapersonal and interpersonal life-situation interventions, which focused on developing healthy coping mechanisms, improving self-awareness, and strengthening relationships in the workplace. The role of positive thinking and attitude in managing stress effectively was highlighted. Special emphasis was placed on the role of spirituality, meditation, and mindfulness practices in promoting inner peace and emotional balance
The workshop also emphasised the importance of maintaining a healthy lifestyle through regular exercise and adopting strategies to reduce stressful behaviours. Sessions on Stress and Personality Types encouraged teachers to reflect on their individual stress triggers and personality traits that may influence their response to challenging situations.
Particular attention was given to the causes of long-term stress among teachers and the common stress triggers encountered in school settings. The practical suggestions given by Fr Edison in his inimitable humorous style enabled participants to identify areas for personal growth and formulate strategies for achieving a healthier work-life balance.
The workshop proved to be highly informative, interactive, and relevant to the teaching profession. The sessions empowered teachers with valuable knowledge and practical skills to manage stress more effectively, foster resilience, and maintain their well-being while continuing to nurture and inspire their students.
The attractive power point presentation used by the Resource person with striking slides proved to be highly impactful in driving home the point that “You cannot pour from an empty cup. Take care of yourself first.”
