Readathon Day Std I- IV – “Turning Pages, Opening Minds!”
“Reading is to the mind what exercise is to the body.” — Joseph Addison
Don Bosco Primary School, Matunga celebrated Readathon Day with great enthusiasm and excitement among the students of Std. I to IV on October 14 and 15th, 2025. The day was dedicated to celebrating the joy of reading and instilling in young learners a lifelong passion for books. The celebration aimed to help students understand that reading is not only a means of gaining knowledge but also a way to explore new worlds, ideas, and emotions.
The programme began with an interactive session in each class where teachers introduced the wonderful world of books through vibrant PowerPoint presentations and engaging videos. These sessions highlighted how reading enriches one’s imagination, enhances vocabulary, and develops creative thinking. Students watched with keen interest as teachers explained how stories can transport readers to faraway lands and how factual books can open doors to discovery and learning.
To make the experience more enjoyable, students were given thoughtfully designed worksheets and fun reading-based activities. These encouraged them to read short passages, identify new and interesting words, and answer comprehension and vocabulary-building questions. The activities were designed to promote reading comprehension in an interactive way. The young learners participated enthusiastically, sharing their thoughts and ideas with their classmates. Their curiosity and energy filled the classrooms with a love for learning.
To help students appreciate different kinds of literature, teachers spoke about the creativity of authors of fiction who weave stories that touch hearts and minds. They also discussed the dedication and research involved in writing factual and informative books. Students were introduced to the works of some well-known poets whose verses have inspired readers for generations. This exposure helped students understand that reading extends far beyond school textbooks—it is an adventure of the mind and a source of lifelong joy.
Throughout the day, teachers motivated students to cultivate the habit of reading regularly and to share stories or poems they enjoyed with their friends and family. They emphasized that reading aloud to others not only builds confidence but also strengthens communication skills.
By the end of the celebration, the students were inspired and motivated to see books as their true companions and guides. The Readathon Day served as a reminder that reading is a doorway to knowledge, creativity, and self-expression.
The celebration truly reflected the school’s belief that “A reader today is a leader tomorrow.” The event successfully fulfilled its purpose of nurturing a generation of young readers who will continue to learn, imagine, and grow through the power of books.
