The much-awaited Annual Sports Festival of Don Bosco High School, Matunga (Primary Section) was celebrated with immense enthusiasm, vibrant energy, and impeccable coordination at the Don Bosco, Matunga turf on 29th November, 2025. Weeks of practice, discipline, and dedication culminated in a spectacular event that brought together students, teachers, and parents in a spirit of unity and pride. The school grounds came alive with colourful decorations, perfectly marked tracks, and the eager faces of young athletes ready to give their best.

The programme with the theme, ‘Hope in every step, Victory in every heart’, began with the warm welcome and arrival of the Chief Guest, Rev.Fr Godfrey D`souza, Rector, Rev. Fr. Flovi D’souza, Principal, Rev. Fr. Orville Coutinho, Administrator, Mrs. Griselda Fernandes, Head Teacher,Mrs Rochelle D’souza, Kg Supervisor whose presence added grace and dignity to the occasion. This was followed by the ceremonial Hoisting of the School Flag, a proud moment that set the tone for the day. The resonant voices of the students singing the School Anthem filled the air, reminding everyone of the values and spirit that bind the school community together. One of the most inspiring moments of the inauguration was the Lighting of the Torch—an enduring symbol of determination, courage, and the unwavering spirit of sportsmanship. The solemn Sportsman’s Prayer and the powerful Sportsman’s Oath further reinforced the ideals of fairness, honesty, discipline, and respect for one another.

The celebration continued with dynamic Drill Displays that showcased teamwork, rhythm, and precision. The well -designed and attractive looking props and the set of exercises chosen by each standard spoke well of the teacher imagination and creativity. Each performance reflected hours of practice and the enthusiasm of the students. Complementing this was the vibrant and perfectly synchronized Band Performance, which added colour, grandeur, and musical brilliance to the morning. Rev. Fr. Godfrey Dsouza then officially declared the meet open and delivered an inspiring address that encouraged students to participate wholeheartedly, strive for excellence, and uphold the true spirit of sports. He highlighted the efforts made for the holistic development of students at Don Bosco, Matunga.

The individual track events showcased the agility of the athletes while the team events gave every student from Std I- IV the opportunity to participate in a game carefully selected by the teachers keeping the age and abilities of the students in mind. The game conducted for parents and teachers brought fun and cheer to the day.

The Closing Ceremony began at noon, with all the students assembling once again on the grounds. Excitement and anticipation filled the air as the most awaited segment—Prize Distribution—commenced. The winners walked up proudly to receive their medals, trophies, and certificates, celebrating not just victory, but hard work and perseverance. The Principal, Rev.Fr. Flovi D`souza delivered a motivating address reminding students that every achievement begins with effort and that both success and setbacks are stepping stones to growth. A heartfelt Vote of Thanks by a student expressed deep gratitude to the management, teachers, support staff, volunteers and parents who contributed tirelessly to the success of the event.

The ceremony concluded with the Lowering of the School Flag, followed by the formal declaration of the meet’s closure by the Chief Guest. As the National Anthem echoed across the grounds, a sense of fulfillment and patriotic pride filled every heart. The day ended with smiles, cherished memories, and a renewed resolve among students to strive higher, stay disciplined and participate with true sportsmanship in all their endeavours.

Overall, the Annual Sports Day was a resounding success, beautifully showcasing discipline, teamwork, talent, and the vibrant spirit of our young learners. The collaboration between the teaching, non-teaching and support staff headed by the Head Teacher of the Primary section Mrs. Griselda Fernandes was clearly seen in the smooth flow of events. The Sports Festival celebrated not only athletic excellence but also the values that sports instil—confidence, resilience, respect and unity.
