Pre-Primary Celebrates Independence Day- “India Is My Pride”

‘A nation’s culture resides in the hearts and the soul of its people.’ – Mahatma Gandhi
The Pre-Primary section of our Don Bosco High School, Matunga proudly celebrated Independence Day with great enthusiasm and patriotic fervour. The celebration aimed to instill in our young learners a deep love for the nation and an appreciation of its rich cultural diversity.

The event began with a warm welcome extended to our esteemed guests – Principal Rev. Fr. Flovi D’Souza, Administrator Rev. Fr. Orville Coutinho, Primary Head Teacher Ms. Griselda Fernandes, and our Pre-Primary Supervisor Ms. Rochelle D’Souza – who were then invited to light the traditional lamp, marking the auspicious beginning of the programme.

The celebration was a vibrant showcase of talent and patriotism, thoughtfully prepared by the teachers. The children presented a delightful medley of performances, including a patriotic song, a skit, and a lively dance. The skit beautifully portrayed the unity in diversity that defines India – highlighting how people from the North, South, East, and West may differ in language, culture, and food, yet remain united in their love for the nation.
A heartfelt prayer was offered by the children for the peace, progress, and prosperity of our country. This was followed by an inspiring address by our Principal, who appreciated the efforts of the teachers and encouraged the young minds to grow up as responsible and proud citizens of India.

As part of the classroom activity, each child was given a miniature Indian flag, and the teachers explained the significance of the tricolour and the Ashoka Chakra, helping the children understand the values and ideals our national flag represents.

The Nursery section celebrated the day with equal zeal. The tiny tots joyfully participated in a hand-painting activity using saffron and green to represent the colours of the Indian tricolour. This fun-filled and creative task nurtured both national pride and artistic expression among our youngest learners.

Additionally, the boys were shown an informative video clip about various freedom fighters and their invaluable contributions to India’s independence. This helped deepen their understanding of our country’s history and the sacrifices made by these brave heroes. Following this, each boy was also given a flag as part of the activity.
The programme concluded on a patriotic note as all the children joined together in singing the National Anthem, filling the air with a spirit of unity and pride. The celebration ended on a joyous note with a dance session for the boys, bringing smiles and laughter, and making the day truly memorable.
