Parent Orientation Programme – Secondary Section
In today’s fast-paced and complex world, parenting adolescents presents unique challenges. To support parents in understanding and guiding their children effectively through these formative years, a Parent Orientation Programme was organised for the secondary section. The sessions aimed to empower parents with practical tools, foster better communication, and promote emotional well-being in families. As the saying goes, “There is no such thing as a perfect parent, so just be a real one.” — Sue Atkins.
Three separate orientation sessions were conducted, with a total participation of 852 parents.
On 12 July 2025, the session for parents of Std. 5 and 6 focused on the theme “Building Bridges, Educating Young Minds.” Ms. Purnima Pandit, Head of School Counselling at Drishti, spoke about the four parenting styles—Authoritative, Authoritarian, Neglectful, and Permissive—and emphasised the importance of adaptability in parenting. She introduced the “Three A’s of Parenting” – Active Listening, Autonomy, and Accountability – using relatable examples. The interactive session saw enthusiastic participation from parents.
On 26 July 2025, the session for Std. 7 and 8 was themed “Raising Resilient Responsible Teenagers.” Ms. Haveesha Budhdev and Ms. Rossitta Viegas from Drishti highlighted the importance of resilience and communication in adolescent development. Using the mnemonic SPACE – Support, Problem Solving, Affirmation, Cheering, Empowerment – they discussed practical strategies for parents to help their children grow into responsible individuals.
On 2 August 2025, the final session for Std. 9 and 10 focused on “Stress Less, Succeed More.” Ms. Akshada Wavekar and Ms. Rossitta Viegas encouraged parents to reflect on their own teenage years to better understand their children. The session addressed Parental Anxiety, stress management strategies, and the importance of empathy, calm communication, and setting reasonable expectations.
All sessions were interactive, insightful, and well-received, equipping parents with valuable tools to foster a positive and supportive environment at home.
