Loved by God, sent with a purpose: Std. VII & VIII Retreat
“Let no one despise your youth, but set the believers an example in speech, in conduct, in love, in faith and in purity.” — 1 Timothy 4:12

A spiritual retreat was conducted for the students of Std. VII and Std. VIII at Don Bosco High School on 20th August 2026. The retreat helped the students to reflect on their relationship with God, deepen their friendship with Jesus, and understand their purpose as young Christians.
The retreat for Std. VII was conducted by Rev. Fr. Jitin. It began with a peaceful meditation, inviting students to welcome God into their lives. A questionnaire helped them to reflect on strengthening their friendship with Jesus. Fr. Jitin compared Judas and Peter, highlighting faith, repentance, forgiveness, and the courage to return to God after making mistakes. He also spoke about the challenges faced by the Apostles while spreading the Gospel and encouraged the students to remain courageous in their faith. The hymn “What a Friend We Have in Jesus” beautifully reinforced the message of Jesus as a loving and ever-present friend. The screening of the movie ‘Risen’ helped students gain a deeper understanding of the Resurrection.
The Std. VIII retreat, held in the Conference Hall, was guided by Rev. Fr. Osborne Furtado. Bro. Savio Rebello welcomed everyone and introduced Fr. Osborne. Centred on the theme “I Am Loved, I Am Sent,” the retreat began with a meditational video and focused on four important messages: I am loved, I am not alone, I can begin again, and I am sent. Through an activity involving the tracing of their hands, students reflected on the positive difference they could make in the lives of others. The story of Mary Magdalene reminded them that, despite their failures, they could always return to God and begin again. The second session focused on Jesus as a friend and guide, the qualities of true friendship, and God's forgiveness.
The retreat concluded with the celebration of the Holy Eucharist. In his homily, Fr. Jitin reflected on the parable of the wedding banquet and the importance of being spiritually prepared to respond to God's call.
A heartfelt vote of thanks by the students and Bro. Savio brought the day to a close. The retreat was a meaningful and enriching experience, helping the students recognise God's love, grow in friendship with Jesus, embrace forgiveness, and courageously live out their Christian calling.
