Life Beyond the Screens - Something needs to change and it begins with us
The mental wellness team at Don Bosco High School, Matunga organised an awareness session for parents of the primary section on 21 Feb, 2026. The theme was Life Beyond the Screens giving light into the growing concern of screen addiction among children. The session focussed on understanding the effects of screen time among children and discussed some practical ways to change the way we interact with children.
The school counsellor, Mrs. Divya Immanuel briefly explained how habits and skills are formed, the neural pathways that are strengthened through regular use and how we have conditioned our children to accomplish activities by giving them screens. With common everyday life examples that parents could relate to, the counsellor helped the parents realise common mistakes and habits we are slowly building in our children that may affect their future.
Spending quality time with children, observing and appreciating them, having parental control in the digital gadgets and applications being used was encouraged. Parents agreed that there is awareness, but a collective effort needs to be made towards the direction of change.
