Independence Day Celebration at Don Bosco High School, Matunga

On August 15, 2025, Don Bosco High School, Matunga, celebrated the 79th Independence Day of India with great enthusiasm and patriotic fervor. The ceremony commenced with a dignified flag-hoisting ceremony, followed by the national anthem, which was sung with great passion and pride by the students and teachers.

The compere welcomed the chief guest, Mr. and Mrs. More, along with other esteemed management, The Principal Rev. Fr. Flovi D’Souza, the Administrator Rev Fr Orville Cutino, the AHM Mrs Christina Mascarenhas, the primary head teacher Mrs Griselda Fernandes, the Pre Primary Supervisor Mrs Rochelle D’souza, the supervisors Mrs Janet D’souza, Ms Pauline Vallado and Mrs Dsksha Tandel, the teachers, parents and the students. The students showcased their talents through various cultural programs, including a march past by the NCC cadets, Scouts, and RSP contingent. These contingents demonstrated their discipline, coordination, and teamwork, highlighting the school’s emphasis on extracurricular activities.

Tribute to Mahatma Gandhi
The students of Class 9/A presented an assembly titled “One Nation, One Heart, United from the Start,” which took the audience on a journey through the life and struggles of Mahatma Gandhi. The program depicted Gandhiji’s quest for independence, highlighting his philosophy of truth, non-violence, and Satyagraha. The scenes reenacted the pivotal moments of Gandhiji’s life, including the Champaran Satyagraha, Kheda Satyagraha, and the Salt Satyagraha.

Rev. Fr. Orville Coutinho addressed the assembly, emphasizing the importance of attaining India’s independence and the role of the youth in shaping the nation’s future. Fr also brought about the significance of independence and the sacrifices made by the freedom fighters. He encouraged the students to uphold the values of freedom, unity, and integrity and to work towards building a brighter future for the nation.

The chief guest, Mr. and Mrs. More, were felicitated with a token of appreciation for their presence. Mrs. Lakshmi Krishna and Miss Barkha Shah distributed prizes to the winners of various competitions.

The Principal Rev Fr Flovi D’Souza proposed a vote of thanks to the chief guest, dignitaries, teachers, and students for making the event a grand success. The program left the audience with a sense of pride and patriotism.
