"Create in me a clean heart, O God, and renew a right spirit within me."Psalm 51:10

The Catholic staff and students of Don Bosco High School, Matunga, assembled at the Shrine of Our Lady Help of Christians on 17th June 2026 for the celebration of the Inaugural Mass, marking the beginning of the new academic year. The Holy Eucharist was celebrated by Fr. Godfrey D’Souza, Rector of the School, as the main celebrant. The concelebrants were Fr. Flovi D’Souza, Principal, Fr. Ajoy, Director of DBIS, and Fr. Vinod, Rector of the Provincial House.

The theme of the Mass focused on invoking the Holy Spirit to guide and strengthen the hearts, minds, and souls of all students and staff as they begin a new academic journey. Through the readings, prayers, and reflections, everyone was reminded of the importance of remaining open to God’s will and allowing the Holy Spirit to lead them in their daily lives.

In his homily, Fr. Godfrey shared the story of crabs in a basket, explaining how they often pull one another down instead of helping each other succeed. He related this to human behaviour and encouraged everyone to support, motivate, and uplift one another rather than become jealous or discouraging. His message highlighted the values of unity, encouragement, and teamwork, which are essential for building a positive school community.

The choir prayerfully animated the liturgy and helped the congregation participate more meaningfully in the celebration. Fr. Orville and Fr. Ivan were available in the confessional, offering the Sacrament of Reconciliation to those who wished to prepare themselves spiritually. The Mass concluded with a special blessing for the academic year, leaving everyone inspired and renewed to walk in faith, guided by the Holy Spirit throughout the year.

"Come, Holy Spirit, fill the hearts of Your faithful and kindle in them the fire of Your love."cf. Acts 2:1-4
