Grandparents’ Day
“Grandparents sprinkle stardust over childhood, filling hearts with warmth, wisdom, and unforgettable stories that shape who we become.”
— Anaya Deshmukh
The Grandparents’ Day celebration at Don Bosco Primary School, Matunga, was held on 26th July 2025 in the beautifully decorated Fr. Joseph Casti Hall. Organised under the guidance of Head Teacher Mrs. Griselda Fernandes, the event was meticulously planned and executed by the dedicated teaching staff. Special efforts were put in by the teachers, Ms. Samantha Cardoz and Mrs. Ranjana Bhandare who shouldered this responsibility.
The theme for this year’s celebration was ‘Strength Rooted in Loving Hearts’, beautifully reflecting the invaluable role of grandparents as the strong, nurturing pillars of every family. The graphic description of this theme on the backdrop made a positive impact on the audience.
The celebration was thoughtfully structured into four sessions, each dedicated to a different grade from Std. I to Std. IV. This arrangement gave every class the opportunity to honour their grandparents through meaningful and personalised performances.
The event was compered with enthusiasm and poise by Ms. Alareen Fernandes and Ms. Meril Menezes. The programme commenced with a vibrant welcome dance, followed by a soulful prayer led by Master Vihaan Surendran student of Std. II A, setting a tone of joy and gratitude. A welcome song performed by the boys under the guidance of the school’s music teacher, Mr. Frazer Vaz, added to the cheerful beginning.
A warm welcome address was delivered by Master Caleb Dias, the School’s Vice Captain, acknowledging the deep love, support, and guidance that grandparents provide. The stage then came alive with a variety of performances that showcased the talent and dedication of the students.
Grades I and II delighted the audience with energetic dances and a heartwarming skit. Students from Grades III and IV followed with dynamic dance numbers full of rhythm and enthusiasm, earning thunderous applause.
Poetry recitations added a reflective note, celebrating the care, wisdom, and sacrifices of grandparents. Laughter and joy echoed through the hall during a variety of fun-filled games and sing-along sessions, where grandparents actively participated and created cherished moments with their grandchildren.
A touching segment featured grandparents sharing personal anecdotes and heartfelt reflections, which resonated deeply with the audience and added a meaningful emotional layer to the celebration.
Rev. Fr. Flovi Dsouza, the school Principal and Rev. Fr. Orville Coutinho, the School Administrator, addressed the gathering with inspiring words, emphasising the invaluable role of grandparents in imparting love, values, and cultural heritage.
Adding to the heartfelt moments, Master Priyansh Menge, student of Std I D, shared, “I was very happy and excited to celebrate Grandparents’ Day with my Dada and Nana. I felt proud when my Dada won a prize in the games.”
Mrs. Jasmine Samuel beautifully summed up the spirit of the day, stating, “The celebration was a joyful experience for grandparents and students alike. It created lasting memories and taught children the value of respecting elders, listening to their wisdom, and cherishing strong family bonds.”
The event concluded with a heartfelt Thank You song followed by a Vote of Thanks by School Captain Master Kaden Rodrigues, who expressed heartfelt gratitude to the grandparents, performers, staff, and organisers for their contribution to the day’s success.
Grandparents’ Day 2025 was a heart-warming tribute to the enduring bond between generations — a celebration of love, legacy, and lifelong memories.
