GOAT – Greatest of All Time: Mother Mary, God Above All Things

On the occasion of the Feast of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary, on 8th September, 2026, all the students and staff of Don Bosco High School, Matunga, gathered at the Shrine of Our Lady Help of Christians for a Eucharistic celebration.
The Holy Mass was celebrated by Rev Fr Flovi D'Souza, Principal of Don Bosco High School.
In his homily, Father Flovi reflected beautifully on the theme “GOAT – Greatest of All Time: Mother Mary, God Above All Things.” He highlighted how Mother Mary placed God above everything else in her life and became a great example of complete obedience and surrender to God’s will. Despite the challenges she faced, Mary humbly accepted God’s plan with her wholehearted “Yes.”
The Church celebrates several beautiful Marian feasts throughout the year. 15th August is celebrated as the Solemnity of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary, while 8th September marks the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary. The month of October, traditionally dedicated to Our Lady of the Rosary, reminds us to draw closer to Jesus through the daily prayer of the Rosary.
Reflecting on this year’s Strenna, which presents Mary as the one who points us towards Jesus and reminds us, “Do whatever He tells you,” Father encouraged everyone to take Mother Mary as a role model. Like Mary, we are called to surrender ourselves completely to God, to be obedient to His will, and to place Him above everything in our lives.
The message was especially meaningful for the students: when we put God first, He guides our choices, strengthens us in difficult moments, and leads us according to His beautiful plan for our lives. As Scripture reminds us in Jeremiah 29:11, God has plans for our welfare and a hopeful future.
The Eucharistic celebration concluded on a prayerful note. Rev. Fr Flovi expressed his gratitude to Ms. Jancy Dharamraj, who animated the Holy Mass and coordinated the liturgy, and to Ms. Valenka Fernandes and the choir, whose melodious hymns helped everyone participate more prayerfully and fervently in the celebration.
The feast served as a beautiful reminder that Mother Mary is truly “GOAT” not because she sought greatness for herself, but because she always placed God above all things and faithfully said “Yes” to His will.
