‘Museums are more than just buildings filled with artifacts; they are vibrant spaces where the past breathes and the future takes shape.’

The day, 21st February,2026 began with a buzz of excitement as the students of Std II of the Primary Section of Don Bosco High School, Matunga assembled in their respective classrooms. After the teachers carefully took attendance and gave general instructions, the children set off on their highly anticipated field trip to the Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Vastu Sangrahalaya (CSMVS).

Upon arrival, the children were transported into the past. The museum's various galleries offered a treasure trove of wonders, from the fascinating birds gallery, to the Art Gallery, the Archaeology Section depicting the Indus Valley Civilization with its terracotta figurines, seals, pottery and beads, Ancient Indian Sculptures, the Natural History Section, in addition to the other specialized collections like the Numismatics section, Arms & Armor collection, to the relatively newer and incredibly innovative addition Children’s Museum, specifically designed to engage young visitors.

At the Amphitheatre, a young girl guide captivated the students with stories told through a Kaavad. It was here they learned that the museum building once served as a hospital during the Spanish Flu pandemic.

"I was so excited to see the waghnakh! My teacher, told us how Shivaji Maharaj used it when he met Afzal Khan”, remarked Jagrav Bane of Std II C.
"The best part of the trip was the Amphitheatre. I learned that our museum is 104 years old and was even used as a hospital a long time ago. It was a very interesting day of learning", commented Agastya Medar of Std II C
The students were on their best behaviour and animatedly discussed all what they saw. The day concluded perfectly back at school, where the children put their new knowledge to the test by solving an interesting worksheet based on their discoveries. It was truly a day where history, art and nature sparked the imaginations of our young learners.
