Feast of St. Dominic Savio – Primary Section

“I can’t do big things, but I want everything to be for the glory of God.” – St. Dominic Savio

On the 5th of July 2025, the Primary Section of Don Bosco High School, Matunga, joyfully celebrated the feast of St. Dominic Savio, one of the youngest saints of the Catholic Church and a beloved student of St. John Bosco. The celebration was held with great enthusiasm and a spirit of reflection among students and teachers alike.

The program began in the classrooms with a special interactive PowerPoint presentation highlighting the life, virtues, and inspirational journey of St. Dominic Savio. The presentation was designed to engage students visually and intellectually, bringing to life the story of a young boy who dedicated his life to God through everyday acts of kindness, prayer, and sincerity. During the morning talks, Principal Rev. Fr. Flovi D’Souza and Administrator Rev. Fr. Orville Coutinho spoke with clarity and reverence about the virtuous saint, encouraging students to embrace his exemplary qualities.

Following the presentation, students were given a worksheet filled with fun and reflective activities based on the saint’s life. These included quizzes, short-answer questions, and thought-provoking prompts encouraging students to think about how they could adopt the values that Dominic Savio stood for—purity, honesty, devotion, and cheerful obedience. It was heartwarming to see students participate actively and share how they would try to live like him in their own daily lives.

The atmosphere in the school was filled with joy and a sense of purpose. Many students expressed happiness at being part of the celebration and were deeply moved by Dominic Savio’s example of holiness at such a young age. Their enthusiasm was evident as they discussed his life story and promised to follow his example by being good students and kind individuals.

Master Eric Vaz, of Std III D commented,” St. Dominic Savio was a holy boy, he read the Bible daily. He would stop his friends from fighting by showing them the cross(crucifix). He died at a young age.”

Mrs. Shahnaaz Abbas (teacher) had this to say- “The celebration of the feast of St Dominic Savio beautifully reflected the life, values, and deep faith of Dominic Savio, inspiring students to follow in his footsteps by living with purity, kindness, and devotion.”

As a sweet conclusion to the celebration, all students received chocolates, adding to the festive spirit of the day. The thoughtful gesture brought smiles to every face and made the occasion even more memorable.

The feast of St. Dominic Savio was not only a day of celebration but also a valuable learning experience that inspired students to strive for goodness and lead meaningful lives.
