National Science Day is celebrated every year on 28th February to commemorate the discovery of the Raman Effect by the great Indian scientist C. V. Raman. This day reminds us of India’s rich scientific heritage and encourages young minds to develop curiosity, innovation, and a scientific temper. At Don Bosco High School, Matunga, National Science Day was celebrated on 28th February with great enthusiasm and active participation from students of Std. 5 to 9.
Students of Std. 8 conducted experiments based on Sound, Light, and Nature of Materials. Under the guidance of Ms. Barkha and Sir Rakesh, they confidently demonstrated experiments on vibrations, reflection of light, and properties of materials. Their presentations were informative and well-organized, enhancing scientific understanding among visiting students. Students of Std. 5 displayed creative models made on topics such as Water Conservation, Rainwater Harvesting, Waste Management, Drip Irrigation, Filtration, Afforestation, and Deforestation. The exhibits included a working water filtration unit, a water harvesting model, and irrigation techniques. Students also prepared attractive slogan charts spreading awareness about pollution and environmental conservation under the guidance of Miss Karuna, Miss Aarti and Miss Snehal.
Miss Janaki and Miss Shikha were entrusted with guiding and coordinating the Std. 5 projects. They helped the students in neatly arranging their models and encouraged them to confidently explain their concepts to visitors. Students of Std. 5, 6, 7, and 8 actively observed the experiments and projects displayed across the floors, making the event interactive and educational. The entire atmosphere was joyful, energetic, and filled with curiosity.
A Science Quiz Competition was organized by Miss Bindu and Sir Shailendra for the students of Std. IX in the Conference Hall to promote analytical thinking and scientific knowledge. All teams participated enthusiastically. The quiz was informative, engaging, and added excitement to the celebration.
The celebration of National Science Day at Don Bosco High School, Matunga was a grand success. Through experiments, models, charts, and quizzes, students explored science beyond textbooks and experienced the joy of learning by doing. The event not only enhanced their knowledge but also inspired them to think creatively and responsibly . It was truly a proud and fulfilling experience — a day filled with discovery, innovation, and the spark of young scientific minds ready to shape the future!
