Celebrating Sportsmanship, Team Spirit and Excellence!
Don Bosco High School, Matunga, celebrated its Annual Sports Festival on 30th and 31st October 2026 with great enthusiasm, vibrant energy and sporting fervour. The two-day sporting extravaganza witnessed enthusiastic participation from boys of Standards V to X, celebrating athletic talent, discipline, teamwork and the true spirit of sportsmanship.
The festival was organised under the able guidance of our Rector, Rev. Fr. Godfrey D’Souza; Principal, Rev. Fr. Flovi D’Souza; Administrator, Rev. Fr. Orville Coutinho; Assistant Headmistress, Mrs. Christina Mascarenhas; and Supervisors, Mrs. Janet D’Souza, Ms. Pauline Vallado and Mrs. Daksha Tandel.
A Grand Opening
The inaugural ceremony was graced by distinguished guests on both days. On Day 1, we welcomed Mr. Amey Gole, BMC Corporator and proud alumnus of Don Bosco High School, Matunga. On Day 2, the occasion was honoured by the presence of Mrs. Roshini Kamble, BMC Corporator and parent of a student from Standard IX.
A significant highlight of the opening ceremony was the ceremonial lighting of the Sports Torch by the school’s best athletes, accompanied by Mrs. Rishu Shrikant Palande, Assistant Commandant and distinguished CRPF officer, who was also present as a proud parent. This inspiring moment symbolised courage, determination and the pursuit of excellence.
The ceremony continued with the hoisting of the School Flag, filling the atmosphere with pride and enthusiasm.
March Past – A Display of Discipline and Unity
The March Past was undoubtedly one of the most spectacular highlights of the festival. Seven contingents — NCC, RSP, Scouts and the four Houses, Red, Blue, Green and Yellow — marched with impeccable discipline, coordination and confidence. The synchronised movements and spirited participation reflected the values of unity, commitment and teamwork.
Adding a unique identity to the celebration was Honohon, the Sports Festival mascot inspired by the Asian Games. It represented the spirit of togetherness and echoed the Games’ inspiring slogan, “Become One Here!”
Drill Display – Rhythm, Grace and Energy
The Drill Display brought the ground alive with vibrant performances of Zumba, Lezim and Gymnastics. Our students showcased exceptional coordination, flexibility, rhythm and dedication, captivating the audience with their energetic presentations.
A Celebration of Sporting Talent
The Sports Festival featured an exciting combination of 11 sporting disciplines — Football, Basketball, Cricket, Rink Football, Volleyball, Throwball, Kabaddi, Table Tennis, Chess, Badminton and Carrom.
The Athletics segment comprised 29 track and field events, conducted across the Under-12 to Under-16 age categories. Students competed with determination and enthusiasm, displaying speed, strength, endurance and agility.
To ensure effective participation and smooth conduct, the festival was organised over two days:
· 30th October 2026: Students of Standards VIII to X.
· 31st October 2026: Students of Standards V to VII.
Each event brought its share of excitement, healthy competition and memorable sporting moments.
The Team Behind the Success
The successful execution of the Sports Festival was the result of meticulous planning, dedicated preparation and seamless coordination by the Physical Education Department — Ms. Jui, Sir Nehal and Sir Melwin.
From organising the sporting events and managing the March Past to coordinating the ceremonies and ensuring the smooth functioning of the two-day programme, the Physical Education team worked tirelessly to make the festival a grand success.
The wholehearted cooperation of the management, teachers and supporting staff, along with the enthusiastic participation of students, played an equally important role in making the celebration memorable.
More Than Just a Sporting Event!
The Annual Sports Festival 2026–2027 concluded on a high note, leaving behind memories of enthusiasm, achievement, camaraderie and school pride. It was not merely a celebration of winning, but a platform that encouraged every student to participate, challenge themselves and discover their potential.
The two days truly embodied the spirit of Don Bosco — where discipline, teamwork, perseverance and the joy of participation come together.
Because in sports, the greatest victory is not just winning a medal, but having the courage to participate, the determination to persevere and the spirit to rise together!
