Trip to City of Real Life Adventures Kidzania
by Ms. Tejashree Vesvikar
The enthusiasm in the Primary section surrounding the picnic scheduled for the day was palpable yet there was also an air of uneasy calm prevalent on the streets of Mumbai given the quota stir and related Mumbai bandh called on Wednesday, 25 July 2018. The Primary picnic happened as scheduled with the children proceeding to visit Kidzania, Mumbai’s global indoor entertainment and learning centre located at R City mall, Ghatkopar for a day.
There were 618 boys of Stds 1 to 4 accompanied by Rev. Father Roy Noronha, Vice Principal and Administrator of the school, Mrs.Griselda Fernandes, Head Teacher of primary section, and the teaching and non teaching staff. The activity of the day was coordinated by Team Adventures Education Tours to ensure smooth running of the activities and the safety of the kids.
The day began with Rev. Father Bernard Fernandes, Principal of the school, giving general instructions to the staff members and was followed by prayer. Mr. Astad Majra, Team Leader of Adventure thereafter briefed the staff on the program and activities at the picnic venue.
Get ready for a better world said the slogan at Kidzania as all its citizens readied to enter with blue band detective bracelets and Kidzo currency. Kids explored the place with over 100+ real life role playing activities. It was a complete blend of reality and entertainment. The realism of role play helped children learn about different careers, work, provide service and how to earn and manage money. The activities included the role plays of Pilot, Firemen, Dentist, Radio Jockey, Detective, Surgeon, Engineer and many more with suitable costumes and use of props.
The motor school driving activity was my favourite; after learning to drive I received a driving license quipped Adrian Borges, Captain of primary section overcome with excitement. Each activity had a task to be completed. After the completion of the task, the kids earned money, certificates or a license as their rewards. This learning environment fosters a child’s autonomy, creativity, decision making skills, problem solving and social values.
Kidzania is important to incorporate some form of entertainment into learning. It is a super fun place for kids and most importantly it is true Edutainment which our kids received and had loads to explain to their teachers, says Mrs. Kashmira Rodrigues. The place provided an ideal environment for the teachers to observe and evaluate the skills of their students who were provided the platform for hands on exposure to learn. The day ended with loads of experience and happy memories for our students. They were excited to earn money and collect their rewards. The city of fun and learning combined helped prepare children for a better world.
