The third and final session with the Greenline for the academic year 2018-2019 was conducted on 15th January, 2019 at Don Bosco High School, Matunga. 26 students from th Primary and Secondary sections accompanied by Mrs. Lakshmi, Mrs. Ranjana and Ms. Yugandhara, attended the session.
Firstly, Ms. Carol, the Greenline resource person, presented students with the summary of the first two sessions of the year and the tasks given to the students under the theme ‘Not in my ocean’. Our student Sarvesh from standard 9 then enumerated the various activities undertaken by the nature club students on the campus and in the neighbourhood. This was followed by a presentation by Ms. Carol. She sensitized the students through videos and images, on how we can save resources by adding refuse to reuse, reduce and recycle. There is the lurking danger of plastic reaching the top of the food chain and harming us. Ms. Carol mentioned few global campaigns like clean seas, 5 gyres, beat the micro bead, etc. and encouraged the students and the staff to sign up for these campaigns. She put forth four inspirational 4 personalities before the students and encouraged them to work at individual levels or volunteer for different activities.
Before concluding Ms. Carol briefed the students about the next task viz. taking inspiration from the heroes. The students have been assigned with the task, ‘SwachamevaJayate’, to write letters to different food packaging companies to stop using multi-laminated plastic as a packaging material.
We returned from this informative and inspiring session with a lot to think and act upon!
