Staff Orientation Program for the Don Bosco Policy Document
-Ms. Ashwini Gupte
Don Bosco High School, Matunga, has a new Policy Document that gives clear and precise rules and guidelines as regards procedure and protocol. The Management of the school, along with the Heads, Supervisors and concerned persons, have framed this elaborate and significant document in the interest of clarity and consistency. All stakeholders in the institution, including the parents and students, will be familiarized with the same in the days ahead.
As part of the orientation, the entire teaching and non teaching staff of the school had a 2 days’ intensive program on June 13th and 14th to help them study, understand and appreciate the procedures and instructions enlisted therein. The two day program began with a brief orientation into the design of a policy by Fr. Crispino D’Souza, Rector of the institution, followed by the study of the policy document by the staff in groups and presentation of the same before the entire assembly. On the 15th of June, a similar program of shorter duration was held for the sports and activity teachers of the school to brief them about the policies that will help our school sports and activity programs run better and effectively.
To give a brief summary, the Policy Document gives instructions as regards the School Discipline Policy, along with a Responsible Behaviour Plan for students; a School Sports Policy; a School Canteen Policy; a School Environmental Policy; a School Bus Policy and a School Admission Policy. Thus, the Policy document clearly states the rules and regulations of the school and the expected behaviour from students at all times while in school uniform. It also explains the protocol to be followed in instances of breach of conduct on the part of the student, in order to correct the unruly behaviour. The Policy document also explains the protocol for addressing parents’ grievances.
The Policy document is to be implemented from the current academic year, and all subjective as well as objective decision making will henceforth be guided by the same.
