Speak to lead
English Elocution Competition-Std. III and IV

Mrs. Pearl Lobo

“The art of communication is the language of leadership.”- James Humes
St. Don Bosco truly believed in giving the best opportunities to the young minds of tomorrow and hence Don Bosco Primary School, Matunga conducted their online English Elocution Competition for Classes 3 and 4, on 28th September, 2020. As it is rightly said by John Powell, “Communication works for those who work at it.” The competition was an attempt to promote English speaking skills, in terms of pronunciation, expression, voice modulation and to develop its spoken form.
This year too, several students gave in their names as participants, which resulted in a keenly contested online elimination round. The poems selected varied and were very interesting. Young talk masters gave their best in the elimination round. Class teachers had a tough time to select the best 2 finalists of their classes.
The judges of today’s competition were Mrs. Zenobia D’Souza, Mrs. Lilly D’Souza and Mrs. Silvina D’Souza, who were teachers and principals of different schools. The competition began with a short introduction about each judge. All the participants performed exceptionally well; winning accolades for their classes. On completion of the last participant, Mrs. Zenobia D’Souza was requested to say a few words of encouragement and to shower the students with a few guidelines for their improvement. Mrs. Zenobia did mention that, ‘They were overwhelmed by the oratory skills and preparation of the participants’. The young and gifted orators had won the hearts of the judges.
Master Troy Braganza student of 3 A quipped,”I would like to thank my Head Teacher and the teachers for organizing the English Elocution Competition in a novel way. It helped me to enhance my potential and confidence level”. While announcing the winners of the competition Mrs. Griselda Fernandes, Head Teacher of the Primary Section quoted, “You can speak well if your tongue can deliver the message of your heart” and congratulated the winners of the evening.
