“Reduce, Reuse, Recycle”- Beyond Academics Std 2
At Don Bosco Primary School besides regular academics that happens in the classrooms, there is Beyond Academics which is fun filled with activities where children learn. On January, 5 and 8, 2019, the students of Std 2 had the sessions organized for them based on Environment and the importance of it in our lives.
The session began with an introduction on cleanliness of environment by Nikita Saurabh Shah the resource person along with the support teachers of Beyond Academics. The students were engrossed in the session that provided them information through videos and power point presentation explaining the importance of waste management and reducing the waste in our environment in three ways i.e. Reduce, Reuse and Recycle. They also learnt to segregate waste by using two separate dustbins with the tags ‘wet waste’ and ‘dry waste’.
The resource person also helped the students to make a photo frame from the waste materials that were provided to them. The children played “waste relay” which demonstrated the time taken by waste materials to decompose or degrade in the environment.
“I enjoyed mixing the mud and manure together and learnt to pot a plant” says Abid Khan, student of class 2B receiving hands on experience of potting a plant.
The session ended with evaluation of students through a fun filled quiz where they were given super hero badges. The resource persons provided study material that further explained the concepts to the students.
