Reading is Dreaming with Open Eyes-Scholastic Reading Programme
“You can find magic wherever you look. Sit back and relax, all you need is a book.” quoted Dr. Seuss .The Scholastic Reading Programme for the students of Std. I to IV was conducted on July 16, 2019 in the Conference Hall to develop student’s interest in reading books and to help them explore the story books they would be reading during the first term in class under the guidance of their class teachers through various activities.
The resource person Mrs. Jyotsna Singh animated the session with the help of videos and power point presentations. She introduced the story books with fun filled activities, quiz and worksheets. She imbibed skills of reading like skimming and scanning of the book, word search, puzzles, etc. The session helped the students to develop their imagination and thinking ability.
The story books selected for the first term are as follows:
Std. I – Silly Dilly
Std. II -The Three Billy Goats Gruff
Std. III- Hellen Keller
Std. IV- Hungry to Read
The students were engrossed in these activities; they fantasized and created images in their minds. They exuded enthusiasm during the activity and responded with delight to the questions asked. The students were helped to find the difficult words from a few pages of the book given to them and they wrote the same in their journal. The students were encouraged to frame sentences using these difficult words and guided how to write the journal.
“I learnt about an elephant that drinks 50 buckets of water” says Xian Fernandes, a student of Std. IA amazed to hear the fact mentioned in the session while learning about various animals too. The session was informative and gave everyone present an enriching experience.
