Don Bosco High School, Matunga celebrated the National Science Day on 28th February, 2018. The theme of this year was “SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY FOR SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT”. The day began with the morning talk by Sir Rakesh and a student of Std 7A Master Rachit on the topic ‘Sustainable development’ and steps taken to reduce carbon emissions.

A session was conducted for the students in the conference hall by the resource person Dr. Radha Srinivasan, a Science researcher and professor. She spoke on Nano Technology, nano size, instruments used to observe nano particles, use of nano technology in the field of medical science and its importance in today’s world.

On the occasion of the Science Day, charts were displayed in the school campus highlighting the motivational quotes and research by Dr.A.P.J.Abdul Kalam. A video based on the alarming facts of nature, water crisis and vision 2020 was viewed by the students in the zero period. During the science sessions, quiz was conducted and some innovative experiment videos were shown in the classes.

In the Laboratory HOTS practicals were conducted for 50 students ranging from each Std IV – IX. The students’ participation, response and results achieved were phenomenal. Our sincere appreciation to the parents who came in from 11am and very willingly helped and observed the students perform the given tasks till 3 pm.

The entire day was filled with activities based on science and the students learned a lot of new good things in science.

Outside of the school campus, a general Science quiz was held on this day at Nehru Planetarium. Master Krish Fernandes and Master Shivansh Parekh from Std 8B and Master Amogh Persuram from Std 8D participated in the quiz. There were approximately 50 students from various schools who were present for the same. The first 4 students qualified for the next round. Krish who got just one mark less secured 5th place whereas Shivansh and Amogh secured the 8th place. The event ended with a vote of thanks proposed by the Director.
