My once-in-a-lifetime experience- At the school felicitation of the Armed Forces Flag Day Fund Collection ceremony
-Dalron Rodrigues 7C
Don Bosco High School, Matunga was the proud recipient of the trophy for its contribution towards Armed Forces Flag Day 2018-19. With a collection of Rs. seven lakhs, eighteen thousand seven hundred and eighty five, the school was placed among the top contributors in the Mumbai city.
The award was presented at a glittering inaugural ceremony of the Armed Forces Flag Day Fund Collection Drive 2019-20 on Sat 07th December 2019 at the majestic Sahyadri Guest house, Malabar hill. Shri Bhagat Singh Koshyari, hon’ble governor of Maharashtra presided at the function. There were also the Vice-Admiral, Principal Secretary, Collectors of Mumbai city and Mumbai suburbs and many distinguished IAS officers.
I was one of the two students that accompanied our Principal Fr Bernard Fernandes at the awards ceremony. Dirk D’Souza from 6C was the other student. At this impressive ceremony there were speeches by the Governor of Maharashtra and the head of the army. Many companies, institutions and the Education department received awards at the function for their contribution to the Flag Day collection 2018-19. It was also an occasion for the Governor to declare open the Armed Forces Flag Day Collection 2019-20. There were cheques presented for this cause by the various groups to set in motion the collection for 2019-20.
After the award ceremony, we were served snacks and tea in the banquet hall and it was nice to see so many people-principals, student representatives, army staff, company heads and education department representatives-at the function.
I count myself very lucky to have got this opportunity.
