Mumbai Salesian Province celebrates its jubilarians!
-Mr. Nelson D’Souza
On Monday, 4th November 2019, the Salesian Province of Mumbai had a memorable celebration of the year’s jubilarians-the Salesian priests of the Mumbai Province who celebrated 60 years of priesthood, 60 years of religious profession, 50 years of religious profession, 25 years of priesthood and 25 years of religious profession. Among the jubilarians was our Principal Fr. Bernard Fernandes who celebrates his silver jubilee of sacerdotal ordination this year. He was ordained a priest at the Shrine of Our Lady of Fatima Panjim, Goa, on 18th December 1994.
The evening celebrations began with a solemn Eucharist at 6.30 pm in the Shrine of Mary, Help of Christians, Matunga. Close to 70 concelebrants joined the mass with Fr. John Samala, ex-Principal of Don Bosco High School Matunga and celebrating the diamond jubilee of his religious profession, as the main celebrant. Hundreds of devotees were present at this joyous celebration that included the parents, relatives and guests of the jubilarians. The prayerful ambience of the magnificent shrine, the angelic choir and the reflections at mass provided the right tone to the thanksgiving Eucharist.
Following the mass, there was a grand felicitation programme organized for the jubilarians at the undercroft of the school building. Here the invitees were restricted to the close relatives, guests and friends of the jubilarians. There was the ceremonial cutting of the cake by the eleven jubilarians and the raising of the toast by the Provincial Fr. Savio Silveira who spelt out briefly the human qualities of each jubilarian and thanked them for the many years of selfless service rendered to the Salesian Province of Mumbai as priests and educators. Interspersed with the snack breaks were the citations for each jubilarian read out by the Provincial Fr. Savio. The citation reflected in brief the work of each jubilarian and the contribution made in enriching the Province and the Salesian Congregation.
We congratulate our jubilarians and ask God to shower His abundant blessings on each of them to continue their noble ministry among the young!
