“God does not choose people because of their ability, but because of their availability.”-Brother Andrew
On 11th January 2020, the Catholic students and teachers of Don Bosco High School, Matunga, gathered at the Shrine of ‘Our Lady Help of Christians’ for the celebration of the Holy Eucharist by the newly ordained priests-Fr. Clarence Martis, Fr.Bosco Carvalho, Fr.Mavron Fernandes, Fr.Aruldass Jerome, Fr.Xavier Bandya. Few parents and well-wishers also attended the mass.
The Principal Fr. Bernard Fernandes extended a warm welcome to all the newly ordained priests and the whole congregation gathered. He made a mention of the four among the new priests-Fr.Bosco, Fr.Clarence, Fr.Mavron and Fr. Jerome -who have been the products of Don Bosco, Matunga.
Fr. Clarence Martis was the main celebrant at the mass. Besides the other newly ordained priests, he was joined at the altar by the priests of the school community and the vocation promoter Fr. McEnroe Lopes. The homily delivered by Fr. Clarence Martis very beautifully highlighted God’s calling in his life and his response towards it.
After the communion service, Fr. Bernard Fernandes thanked the choir for their glorious singing that helped the congregation to pray well. Fr. Bernard also thanked Ms Elizabeth for the mass animation. Ms.Raveena D’Souza, whispered a prayer for the priests after which a token of appreciation was given to each of the newly ordained priests.
After mass, the priests addressed the Catholic students of Stds. 7, 8 and 9 in separate groups and shared with them their vocation story.
All these miracles of God shows that no matter how small anybody think they are God has a way of proving His greatness as mentioned in 1 Corinthians 1:27,”God chose the foolish things of the world to shame the wise; God chose the weak things of the world to shame the strong.”
