Mrs. Reshma Belgaonkar
The Marathi Divas was celebrated in the Secondary section on 27th February. The day began early with a festive mood in the school. The whole place was decorated beautifully in orange and white. A wonderful rangoli and lit lamps adorned the entrance.
Boys dressed in costumes of great personalities like Shivaji Maharaj, his Mavlas, Lokmanya Tilak and others welcomed everyone into the school building. This added colour to the entire place. Well made charts with meaningful messages and information adorned the walls. Melodious songs in Marathi filled the air. The place was set for a wonderful day ahead.
Fr. Principal surprised everyone with his introductory speech in Marathi giving his best wishes for the day. This was followed by a talk given by Ms.Reshma. She enlightened us on why the day is recognised as Marathi Divas by the government of Maharashtra. She emphasised that it was the birthday of the late poet, Shri. V. V. Shirvadkar, a connoisseur in literature and also the recipient of the “Gnanapeeth” award for his contributions to Marathi literature.
After this the various activities were conducted in different classes in the zero period. Std 5 had a handwriting competition, Std 6 did choral recitation in class, Std 7 wrote a poem with a picture of the poet, Std 8 wrote ten proverbs and Std 9 viewed a presentation and wrote about the importance of Marathi as a language. The boys enthusiastically took part in all the activities.
The day ended with a message from Sir Shyam. He told us the importance of the language and why should we be eager to make it our own.
The meticulous planning and coordination of all the teachers made the day really great and left everyone with an increased love for Marathi.
