-Mrs. Blossy D’silva
Keeping in mind the birth anniversary of the great poet V.V. Shirwadkar, popularly known as ‘Kusumagraj’, Marathi Bhasha Divas was celebrated on March 28, 2020 in the Primary Section of Don Bosco High School, Matunga. The day was organized by the Marathi teacher Mrs. Blossy D’silva in association with the Head Teacher Mrs. Griselda Fernandes. Marathi being the official language of the state of Maharashtra, the main focus of the Marathi Bhasha Divas celebration was to promote the Maharashtrian culture and Marathi language among the young Boscoites.
A day prior to the celebration the classrooms and corridors were well decorated with eye-catching charts giving glimpses of the Marathi culture. The morning assembly commenced with a morning talk by Mrs. Blossy, exposing the students to the importance of Marathi language and how it can enhance their access to people and resources through better communication.
The students of Std. III and IV enthusiastically participated in a Marathi Elocution Competition organized for them. Mrs. SarikaPawle, Mrs. ShwetaShelke and Mrs. Geetanjali Agiwale were invited to judge the competition. Certificates were awarded to the winners by the Head Teacher Mrs. Griselda Fernandes. To quote Mrs. SarikaPawle a judge at the Elocution Competition, “It was a wonderful opportunity for me to see the young Boscoites reciting their poems with utmost confidence.”
Later the students recited poems that they had learnt in their respective classes and short moral story videos in Marathi were also shown to the boys. Some teachers came dressed to school in the traditional Maharashtrian attire adding to the significance of this day. The students and teachers enjoyed the day. Marathi Bhasha Divas ended with beautiful memories to cherish.
