Hip Hip Hurrah ! It’s Grandparents’ Day!
– Ms. Alareen Fernandes
Grandparents are a delightful blend of laughter, caring deeds, wonderful stories and love. Grandparents are special to every child. Their knowledge is invaluable and their love unconditional. To make them feel special and loved, Don Bosco High School, Matunga hosted Grandparent’s Day on 22nd July, 2017 for the grandparents of the students of Std. I – IV in the Bianchi Hall, Don Bosco, Matunga. The school’s initiative to celebrate Grandparents’ Day is to bring about a positive mindset in the present generation and to give a chance for the children to interact with an age group that is most often overlooked.
Around 400 grandparents attended the special celebration that was indeed held just for them. The Head Teacher of the Primary section, Mrs. Griselda Fernandes said, “At Don Bosco Matunga, we are constantly striving to bring more and more people into our fold, to be a part of our extended family. Grandparents’ Day is one such step in this direction.”
The venue was spruced up for the special day. The beautiful decoration on the stairways, entrance, stage, backdrop, and invites manifested the hard work and efforts of the Head Teacher, teachers, and parents who worked tirelessly to portray the love and affection of the grandchildren for their grandparents.
The programme began with a welcome song by the boys of Std. III & IV followed by the lighting of the lamp by the Principal, Fr. Bernard Fernandes; Head Teacher, Mrs. Griselda Fernandes and some grandparents. Our School Captain, Master Rudra Shetye, welcomed all the grandparents through his reflective speech. The grandparents were thoroughly entertained by the amazing performance by our tiny tots of Std. I who presented an action song, and Std. II who performed a graceful dance on the stage. Various interesting spot prizes were organized for the grandparents.
Some grandparents shared their views and expressed their gratitude towards the school on this occasion. Mrs. Sequeira, said, “Grandparents are an important part of each person’s life, and, I am very happy to be here on this occasion.” “I truly appreciate the school for giving us this opportunity to come and enjoy this day. Thank you very much for remembering us,” said Mrs. Ravin.
The Principal, Fr. Bernard Fernandes, thanked the grandparents for their valuable time on this occasion and commended the teachers for their efforts to make this day a big success. Our Vice-Captain, Master Keegan Peres, then extended a vote of thanks followed by a thank you song by the students of Std. III & IV.
The grandparents were very happy to witness this event. They penned their thoughts and views about the programme, and these were displayed on the board. The grandparents were then escorted for some light refreshments at the end of the programme. They returned home with a smile on their face and joy in their hearts for something wonderful that they experienced during the day.
