Getting down to the nitty-gritty of the Maths tab learning technology
– Ms. Colleen Azavedo and Ms. Reena Perumbully
“Technology is just a tool. In terms of getting the kids working together and motivating them, the teacher is the most important.”
A workshop for the staff was conducted by the Nalanda team on 13th June 2018 in the conference hall from 9:15 am to 1:10 pm. The Primary section, Maths faculty from the Secondary section along with the Head Teacher of the Primary section attended the workshop. The aim of the skill-based workshop conducted by Ms. Purvee Chauhan was to depict the user-friendly app and methodology – that is to be introduced in the teaching of Mathematics in classes 3 to 5 from this scholastic year – for both the students and the teachers. Blending two distinct methods- technology incorporated with teaching – has significantly improved the learning process. Ms. Chauhan along with her team helped the teachers have a hands-on experience with the tablets and the server.
Ms. Chauhan began with an activity, which was actually a recap of the previous session held in April 2018. This helped the teachers to get started and develop an interest in the session. The teachers received a tab after which every step was explained in detail. The hands on experience made it much easier to understand the technology and made the subject interesting.
Miss. Varsha Vishwanathan clarified the doubts and answered the queries raised by the staff. An activity in the form of a crossword was done to wrap up the session. Mrs. Lakshmi Krishnan proposed the vote of thanks.
To guide us in the initial stages of the venture and for the installation of this project, Ms. Purvee and the team will be on the school premises for a month. Mathematics will surely be fun for our budding students!
