Feast of St. Dominic Savio-The Champion of God
Ms. Jessiya Sekar
“The more you praise and celebrate your life, the more there is in life to celebrate” – Oprah Winfrey
The entire Don Bosco family came together virtually on 6th July to celebrate the remarkable depth of holiness of the young Saint Dominic Savio. This teenage saint’s path to holiness was to live the spirituality that was shared with him by his mentor, St. John Bosco; basically a life lived simply by doing ordinary duties in anextraordinary way.
The feast day began with the live telecast of the Eucharistic celebration in honouring The Little Giant of Sanctity. The main celebrant was the Rector, Rev. Fr. Crispino D’Souza, and he was ably joined by the Principal, Rev.Fr. Bernard Fernandes. The online mass was streamed live and many, including the staff members of Don Bosco school, students, parents and well- wishers participated in the Eucharistic celebration. The theme for the holy mass was ‘Leading when it matters’. Pertaining to the current crisis, Fr. Bernard stated ‘With faith we will be back in His time.’ Connecting the homily with the event of the installation of the Student Leaders, Fr. Crispino rightly encouraged and motivated the students to inculcate the leadership quality in the same way as Dominic Savio, whoalong with being a bright leader, was also a great role model to all. Fr. Crispino exhorted the students to prepare themselves Spiritually, Mentally and Socially for which Fr. Bernard framed an acronym SMS. The feast day of St. Dominic Savio strengthened each one’s resolve to fight this pandemic determinedly.
The young Boscoites of the Primary Section were posted a comprehensive and effective video presentation on the life of St. Dominic Savio along with an activity based worksheet on the Google classroom by their respective class teachers. Enlightened by the values of St. Dominic Savio’s simple, humble behaviour such as cheerfulness, fidelity in friendship and helping others, the students excitedly shared their colourful and creative art work images of the activity worksheet.
To quote in better words, the life of St. Dominic Savio is truly an inspiration which will lead the students to be committed and responsible citizens.
