Education to Love’ – Teaching the ABC’s of true love
-Atharva G & student team of reporters
In a country like India where speaking about sex is treated as a taboo, Don Bosco High School, Matunga took a bold step by conducting a seminar on it for the students of Std. IX. Held on 22nd and 23rd Jan 2018, the session was conducted by Fr. Steven Davis and Mrs. Sharon, who provided a holistic and rounded approach to the topic. During the session they also helped the students to pen down their talents.
Teenagers are wrongly guided with a lot of (mis)information available about sex on the net and social media. The aim of the face-to-face session was to have all doubts clarified about this subject. In contrast to listening to exaggerated and embellished stories by friends and shows, Fr. Steven through the session, provided the ‘science behind sex’. There was laughter and grinning which eventually settled down as the session started taking a serious turn. Through Q&A, and a series of pictures / videos, the human anatomy was explained by Fr. Steven. He pointed out the repercussions of unsafe sex and the issues such as AIDS, child pregnancy, rape, etc.
Sessions like these helps closed minds to open up. The boys left the room with a mature outlook.
