Education to Family values
-Mrs. Perpetual Nazareth

The Education to Family Values project was conceptualised by the Western Region Bishops’ Conference as a response to Pope Francis’ call in his apostolic exhortation Amoris Laetitia (April 2016) for Catholic schools to be proactively involved in educating children to family values, love and sexuality. This project aims to provide Catholic schools with adequate resources to enable educators to take up the challenging task of imparting holistic education to their students, in close collaboration with their parents. The topics short-listed after a dipstick study among students were parenting, relationships, child abuse, gender issues, biology-anatomy, personality development, relevant laws and regulations, substance abuse and social media.
A seminar to explain the modalities of the EFV project was conducted on 13th August at Holy Name High School, Fort for the ABE schools of the South Zone. Our school was represented by two staff members, Mrs. Christina Mascarenhas and Mrs. Perpetual Nazareth. A similar program was scheduled for the ABE schools of the West Zone at St. Stanislaus High School, Bandra, and for the North, Navi Mumbai, Thane and Raigad at St. John the Baptist High School, Thane. Experts in this field, Fr. Cleophas Braganza sdb and Fr. Cajetan Menezes, along with other prominent people, had prepared modules of lessons to be conducted in Std. VIII to X. This would be a part of Value Education in our schools. The modalities could range from a workshop to two lessons per month. The teachers who attended the course were explained the process to conduct the lessons through discussion, videos, activities etc. It was an enhancing session for the participants who got to interact with the 73-odd participants of the South zone ABE schools and help take forward a program relevant to our times.
