Educating to Family Values

The value education coordinators and teachers from various ABE schools of Mumbai attended the AVEC Seminar on Educating to Family Values conducted by Archdiocesan Value Education Centre – AVEC at Don Bosco International School hall, Matunga on 9th September, 2017.
The day began with short prayer service and the words of welcome by the AVEC director, Fr. Leon Rodrigues sdb. Fr. George Athaide, ABE director introduced the theme ‘Educating to Family Values’ and the motive behind conducting the seminar.
The resource person, Fr. Cajetan Menezes spoke about family stability and family life education. He discussed the various challenges that are faced in the present scenario of marriages and family life.
The talk by the other resource persons, Mr. Allwyn and Mrs. Trudy helped us understand about sex education in broad terms. Sex Education does not focus on protection through practice of safe sex, but in a broader framework it is an education for love. Mrs. Trudy explained about Dipstick study to acquire information from the focused groups to understand young people’s knowledge and perception, attitudes, experience and to overcome biases and myths.
Mr. Allwyn provided a handout of a lesson plan on uniqueness of being male or a female and how to conduct a value education class. “An appreciation of our body as male or female is necessary for our own awareness. Our differences are meant to unite us and not to divide us”, said Mr. Allwyn.
The seminar ended with an enlightening panel discussion.
