assembly-28sept-19 assembly-28sept-22

The students of Std. IX C took to Theatre and the Arts at the weekly assembly, as they staged a play: Don Bosco 2.0. Don of the Youth. They used theatre as a medium to educate and appreciate the young.  The play had two sutradhars: Don and Dom, who observed, commented and took the play forward.

The cast trained the spotlight on Don Bosco’s letter to the educators and its relevance today as the courts uphold the rights and dignity of children and the schools do away with corporal punishments.  Students discussed about Don Bosco’s desire for the young to be good citizens and to  impact society by contributing to its needs. They touched upon topical issues to drive home the theme: Don Bosco Lives on. They presented glimpses of teachers with frayed nerves and the thoughtlessness of students. The Don Bosco way of educating the young is the way forward today as the children, though young know that only reason has the right to correct them. They addressed the problem of food wastage and urban hunger when they partnered with the Mumbai Dabbawalas in their project to reach left over home cooked food to children on the streets. The treatment of Para Olympians was yet another talking point. The play drew to a close with Dom voicing his desire to play the tabla and Don clicking a group selfie with the cast.

Fr. Principal in his discerning reflections  highlighted  Don Bosco’s observation, on children being thoughtless and not malicious.  He opined that children do many things because they are not alert or attentive to what is happening to them. Meditation is the panacea to calm a cluttered and chaotic mind.

Fr. Bernard announced that Mrs. Beatrice Pinto was witnessing the last class assembly as the Assistant Headmistress. She retires on September 30. He thanked her for her thirty five years of unflagging dedication to her vocation. The announcement was met with a thunderous applause from the young audience. He officially announced that Mr. Cliffrichard D’souza would be the new AHM. This too was met with warm and lusty cheering from the boys.

The assembly was also introduced to Dr. Parshuram, a paediatrician who spoke about the ill effects of smoking. This was an initiative by the DFC team of the school who are engaged in a campaign to create an awareness about the perils of tobacco consumption and to fight the menace.
