-Mr. Manoj Koli

Twenty three Don Bosco and Auxilium schools of the Salesian Mumbai Province from Rajasthan, Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh and Maharashtra participated in the Gromo camp held at Lonavla from 24th to 28th October 2017. Close to 750 scouts and guides participated in this camp with the theme ‘Health, Harmony and Holiness’ organized by the Salesians of Don Bosco.

Speaking to the youngsters at the camp, the Provincial Fr. Godfrey D’Souza sdb highlighted the salient features of the Scouts and Guides movement.  He said that Scouting exists to actively engage and support young people in their personal development, empowering them to make a positive contribution to society.  As scouts, we are guided by the values of integrity, respect, care, belief and cooperation.

Integrity – we act with integrity; we are honest, trustworthy and loyal.
Respect – we have self-respect and respect for others.

Care – we support others and take care of the world in which we live.
Belief – we explore our faiths, beliefs and attitudes.

Cooperation – we make a positive difference; we cooperate with others and make friends.
Fr. Godfrey further stressed that “Gromo” that is being organized by the Mumbai Province, is to bring together our youngsters who are creative, enthusiastic, committed and wanting to dare! It is a reminder that we need to ‘grow more’ in the qualities enlisted above helping the young to shape their own development, thus empowering them to make a positive contribution to society and the world at large. He wished all the organizers and the participants, scouts and guides, all the very best and a beautiful experience of fellowship and fraternity.
Our scouts along with their scout masters Sir Manoj and Sir Rajesh prepared much in advance practicing for the various competitions held at Gromo. These included March Past, Theme presentation, Physical display, Hiking, Cultural dance depicting the cultures of the states in our country (our scouts selected the state of Rajasthan), Rally, Pioneering projects etc. Our scouts have done the school proud by securing a Gold grade (A) in March past, Skill-o-Rama Trekking and Theme presentation, while securing a Silver grade (B) in Exhibition, Pioneering projects, Cultural Dance, Camp inspection, and Physical display.

The experience for our scouts was gratifying, rewarding and adventurous. It also prepared them for the bigger camp THE BOSCOREE to be held at NASHIK in the year 2018.
