Day of Action-Mock Fire Drill
Mrs. Christy Jagdish
Be Alert Be Safe. March 11, 2020 was a day of action for the Primary Section of Don Bosco High School Matunga as a Mock Fire Drill was conducted for the staff and students. The school collaborated with Mr. Esakki Pandi, member of Disaster Management and Research Foundation to teach our young brave hearts to act wisely in an emergency situation. Preceding this activity an interactive session was held on March 9, 2020 for the teachers to brief them about the Do’s and Dont’s and other important points relevant to this activity. A Fire Audit had already been done as per the BMC norms for schools.
The Head Teacher Mrs. Griselda Fernandes and the Class Teachers briefed the boys prior to this activity the manner to evacuate the building. The drill was put into action after the morning assembly. On hearing the emergency alarm, 645 students, 26 lady staff and 4 male staff evacuated the Primary Building through various exits as explained by the Head Teacher. They all assembled in the school quadrangle. The evacuation of the Primary Section happened in just 3 minutes (10:05 am to 10:08 am) which was remarkable!
Our young Boscoites went home with a good learning experience feeling that they should keep calm in all emergencies and obey the instructions of their teachers. The Head Teacher thanked Mr. Esakki and all the staff for their support and congratulated them for their co-ordination in making the Mock Fire Drill a success. As a result of this activity all those who participated in it learnt that ‘Safety distinguishes you, lack of safety extinguishes you’!
