Christians begin the Holy season of Lent-Mass for Catholic students

-Mrs. Elizabeth Soares

The Christian community observe the Holy season of lent with the celebration of Ash Wednesday. It is a forty-day period of fasting, prayer and alms giving leading to the feast of Easter. The Catholic students from Stds. III to IX were present at the Eucharistic celebration that was specially arranged for them in the shrine of Don Bosco’s Madonna to mark this special day. They were joined by the Catholic students and staff of DBIS as well as a big representation of parents and well-wishers.
The main celebrant at mass was Fr. Goyal Anthony sdb, Administration of Don Bosco Provincial House, Matunga. He was joined at the altar by Fr. Bernard Fernandes, Principal and Fr. Roy Noronha, Vice-Principal. Fr. Goyal in his own inimitable way stressed the importance of this period of preparation that includes fast, prayer and alms giving, and asked the entire congregation to stay prepared and blessed during Lent. There was the customary marking of the forehead of the faithful with ash by the priest that signifies repentance. The school choir under the direction of Sir Sherone George and Mrs. Daphne were at their chanting best with traditional and modern hymns to reflect and pray.
We pray for one another that such moments of grace may bring about healing, peace and unity in the world and our communities.
