Christ is Holiness in me
-Ms Jansi Dharamraj
‘Every saint has a past and every sinner has a future.’
The above quote reflects the life of St. Francis of Assisi whose feast we celebrated on 4th October.
All the Catholic students and staff gathered with much devotion at the Shrine of Our Lady Help of Christians for the first Friday mass and the feast of St. Francis of Assisi. The main celebrant for the mass was Father Shilananda who is currently based in Our Lady of Dolours Church, Wadala. Fr. Bernard Fernandes, the principal of the school, was the con-celebrant at mass.
The homily by Father Shilananda stressed on the life of St. Francis of Assisi. He highlighted the six important attributes related to the saint. Firstly, ‘Not to be sad about the past’, as every saint had a past and every sinner has a future. Next,’One has to live a life of simplicity’ where he or she should go for simpler goods instead of expensive and branded products. Thirdly, ‘Love for nature,’ as God is a great artist and nature is the artwork of God. St. Francis of Assisi addressed nature as members of God’s family.
Next, ‘God calls us out of our comfort zone to live a life for Him’. And it is ok to feel confused at times in life. Each Christian is called to witness to the life of holiness in poverty. God works all things good and bad together for the good of those who love Him and are called according to His purpose. Finally, we need to ask God to make each one a channel of God’s peace.
After communion Father Bernard acknowledged the efforts of the teachers who made the day’s programme a success. He thanked Mrs Elizabeth for the animation and the choir conducted by Mrs Daphne and Sir Sherone which added meaning to the mass.
