Celebrating Teacher’s Day
-Ms. Alareen Fernandes
Teachers’ Day celebration – a grand affair at Don Bosco High School, Matunga – was anticipated to 4th September, 2017 on account of Anant Chaturthi on 5th September. It was a day specially planned and organized for the staff by the management, parent representatives and students to express gratitude to them, and to make the day a special one for all the teachers. By chance the day’s celebrations coincided with the Onam festivities this year.
The classrooms, the staff rooms and the corridors were suitably decorated for the day. The day began with the Eucharist celebration in the shrine (crypt) presided over by the Principal, Fr. Bernard Fernandes, and concelebrated by the Vice-Principal, Fr. Roy Noronha, to invoke God’s blessings on each one. Teachers were then felicitated in their respective classrooms by their students through speeches, poems, songs, skits, dance, etc. This was followed by a special entertainment programme organized by the student council bringing together the talent of the students of the Pre-Primary, Primary and the Secondary sections.
The Entertainment Committee (Mrs. Bela Mehta, Mr. Manoj Koli, Mrs. Reshma Belgaonkar, Mrs. Namrata Cheke and Ms. Rytika Pereira – teachers of the school) conducted an amazing programme for the staff with lots of fun, games and dance. The retired teachers too were invited to be a part of the festivities of the day. They were present in large numbers expressing their love and admiration for the school. Their presence made the day even more memorable.
Mrs. Winifred Fernandes, ex-Head Teacher of the Primary Section said, “It is a beautiful gesture on the part of the management to invite us; we feel like a family.” Mrs. Janet D’Cruz, an ex-teacher said, “It feels nice to come back and be part of one big Don Bosco family. We feel appreciated and it’s good for us. Thanks to the management for remembering us.”
The day’s program ended with a fellowship meal shared by the management, the retired and the present teaching and non-teaching staff. A big ‘Thank You’ to everyone for making this day very special!
