“With ordinary talent and extra-ordinary perseverance, all things are attainable.” -Thomas Foxwell Burton
Talent, as described in the above quote, is one of the greatest weapons, and the secondary section of Don Bosco High School, Matunga celebrated this vast reserve of gifts at the most eagerly awaited ‘Bosco Kala Utsav’ on 29th August,2019.
The core Bosco Kalautsav committee comprising Mrs. Lakshmi, Mrs. Vijaylekhmi, Mrs. Sonali and Mrs. Hemangi galvanized the student council to organize the flurry of activities during the day. The student leaders met in the morning at 08:00 a.m. and the coordinating teacher briefed them on the duties allotted for the day.
The school was divided into various sections as per the events planned for the day. The schedule and the venue for each event were displayed artistically on the well designed notice board in the school lobby.
The events planned for the day were as follows:
1.English Elocution for Juniors and Seniors
2.Debate for Seniors
3.Quiz/Spell bee for Juniors and Seniors
4.Talent hunt-Juniors and Seniors
5.Display boards (on school policies)-an event held in each classroom outside of the main Bosco Kalautsav day
6.Art Competition for selected students
7.Photography competition (through power point presentation)
8.MyKensho presentation (a new event that got the students to highlight their learning at the MyKensho program. Parents were in attendance for this event).
9.Movie screened in the classrooms (for Juniors)
The ‘Talent Hunt’ helped the boys to showcase their mind-blowing talents such as vocals (English/Hindi), beat-boxing, solving Rubrics cube, Marshal art. The ‘Spell Bee’ competition over the intercom was an intellectual treat while the debate tested the persuading prowess of the speakers.
Movies such as, ‘Coco’ and ‘Finding Nemo’ were screened for the boys of standards 5th to 7th, following which they answered a few questions based on the movie.
Shaun Pereira, X-B, a student leader says, “It was a great official responsibility of managing the school discipline and a learning experience too.” Joel Pereira from class V C expressed his first experience at Bosco Kala Utsav, “I was very excited and curious for this day as I had worn my house jersey for the first time. This day was truly a fun-filled day.” Keegan Peres of class VD sharing his experience says, “It was a platform provided for us to showcase our talents, thanks to the school management and the teachers.” Another student Ryan D’souza also comments, “The quiz part was the most interesting one for me.”
With many takeaways the well organized Kalautsav did strike a chord with the staff and students in the school!
