Bastille Day celebrations at Don Bosco Matunga
-Ms. Ashwini Gupte
July 14: The French faculty, along with the students, celebrated ‘La Fête Nationale’, the French National Day today.
The students of Standards VIII, IX and X belonging to the French department displayed charts depicting the French flag, map, important cities and French culture. A talk on the significance of the day gave the importance of this national holiday in France that commemorates the beginning of the French Revolution with the storming of the Bastille on 14th July 1789.
Albeit a French holiday, the day is a celebration of themes common to the pride of any nation- revolt against a tyrannical power, fidelity to the national flag and anthem, and the values of liberté, égalité and fraternité that we too have enshrined in our constitution. As such, the day was marked with due respect.
