The role of parents, along with teachers, in shaping students’ lives – AVEC Seminar 2015-2016

The Value Education Seminar for Value Education coordinators, ‘Involving Parents in the Educative Process’ focused on the crucial role families play in shaping children, and the need therefore to maintain healthy home environments.

A number of stalwarts animated the gathering, beginning with Rev. Bishop Dominic Savio Fernandes who briefly introduced the topic, followed by the keynote speaker, Dr. Mrs. Yolande Pereira, who discussed ways to involve parents in the educative process- through P.T.A. meetings, seminars and volunteer work in school, to list a few. Dr. Pereira concluded that parents and teachers contribute to the child’s academic success when they forge a meaningful partnership.

A panel presentation comprised Ms. Rohini D’Souza sharing her views on ‘Enabling youngsters to build healthy family relationships, Dr Yolande Pereira spoke about ‘Tackling the menace of pornography’, Fr. Jude Fernandes with ‘Enabling youngsters to understand discipline and responsibility’, Fr. Ajoy Fernandes on ‘Teaching youngsters to deal with stress’ and Fr. Magi Murzello guiding the group on ‘Keeping youngsters safe from addiction.’

In keeping with the theme, ‘Like Don Bosco, with the young, for the young’, the seminar would be another step towards being there for our children, as best we can.
