An NCC camp with a difference
-Mr. Rakesh Singh
On 1st November 2018 afternoon post their first term exams, 40 NCC cadets reported in the school. The excitement was palpable. An adventurous camp was in the offing for the boys, and it was their first camp together as a troupe. We joined the other three troupes – RSP, Scouts and cubs – for the camp. After the attendance and a short prayer, the boys left the school by 3:30 pm.
The road trip to Karjat was for 3 hours. We reached our destination, the Pinewood Resort, at 6:30pm. Upon arrival, tea and snacks were served for us. Thereafter we got going with the camp activities. The first session was a program on First Aid and Disaster Management for the boys. The boys were then given their rooms; they were accommodated in two dormitories. For better organization and effectivity, the cadets were divided into four teams – INS VIKRANT, INS VIKRAM ADITIYA, INS MAYSHORE and INS VIRAT .
Following a rest time for an hour, the boys reported at 8:30 pm for dinner. A well organized camp fire followed meal. All the four troupes were given a task for the camp fire – they had to perform a short skit and sing a song. At the end, the boys played a round of garba around the fire. After the camp fire, a restful sleep was what they had following a tiring day’s travel and activities.
On waking up the next morning, the boys were taken for an early morning jog in the village at 6 am. This was followed by a session of games, meditation and yoga at the camp site. A sumptuous breakfast awaited the boys after which there were some serious activities. There was a Group discussion organised on the core issues like cleanliness, environmental degradation and addiction to the social media. Group games were then conducted that entailed certain rules and conditions. The relaxed moment came in the form of an hour’s pool time, after which the boys were advised to take rest. Lunch was provided at 2:00 pm.
At 3:00 pm the boys reported for the eagerly awaited trek. We began our trek at 3: 45 pm and walked through the forest enjoying every bit of thrill that nature had on offer. We reached the final destination at the KOTLIGAD Fort, which is 3100 ft above sea level. After spending some time out there, we began our trek back to point of origin at 7:30 pm. We reached well past 9 pm, and the boys had their dinner and rested following an eventful day.
On 3rd Nov morning after breakfast the boys participated in the March past. Following the camping norms and procedures, the rooms were inspected and then there was an hour of swim. Lunch was served after our swim, and it was time for us to depart for Mumbai. We reached school at 5:30 pm glad that we have with us great memories to cherish.
