Accelerated Learning Program (ALP)
-Ms. Lakshmi Krishna
The Accelerated Learning Program was conducted on 24th and 25th June 2017 for the Science teachers of the Secondary sections of schools in Hume High School, Byculla.
Over the years, the authorities found an alarmingly high number of students belonging to the class IX who were detained on account of an overall poor performance and specifically in subjects such as English, Maths and Science. This growing pattern has dire consequences and over-time has led to a large number of drop-outs from education system.
In Dec 2016, an ordinance was passed by the Government of Maharashtra (GoM) which provided the following direction – Quality education should be obtained where each child should be brought to an optimum level before getting promoted to the higher class. The focus was in subjects such as English, Maths and Science.
As a result the GoM designed this program to provide special focus and emphasis on weaker students in class IX. This program has been tested for 2 years by the authorities before delivering this to all the schools at a mass level. Though the program is specifically tailored for class IX, it can find its application for the school at large. The design and implementation of the program includes diagnostic tests in the 3 subjects, evaluation and the isolation of weaker students for ALP with the ERAC (Expression, Reflection, Application and Consolidation) methodology. During ALP, the weaker students will be imparted concepts (already identified), have self-study and prepare for ALP testing process.
