January 26 is an important day in the timeline of Independent India and its citizens. And this day is celebrated as the Republic Day all over India.
2021 is marked as a special year in our lives. So was the Republic Day celebrations at Don Bosco High School, Matunga. The flag hoisting ceremony was conducted at school and the entire program was beamed live via YouTube for the benefit of the students who weren’t in school. At the school the gathering of staff and students was kept small respecting the social distancing norms.
The crisp yet meaningful program began with the Ms.Yugandhara Kaskar, the compere and anchor, welcoming the management team – Fr.Crispino D’souza, Fr.Bernard Fernandes, Mr.Cliff Richard D’souza, Mrs. Christina Mascarenhas, Mrs. Shoba D’souza and Mrs. Griselda Fernandes.
They were escorted by the students in uniform consisting of the RSP, NCC and Scouts units. The students marched to the lively music played by our own school band.
Fr. Rector then hoisted the flag as the audience stood with pride and saluted the flag. The national anthem was then played by the school band. This was followed by a speech by Varun Elavia. He spoke about undying patriotism in every Indian in spite of the situation this year. A beautiful dance presented by our teachers transported us back to the rich and classical Indian culture.
The Constitution of India states that it is the fundamental duty of every citizen to protect and improve the natural environment including forests and environment. With this in mind, teachers and students took an oath and pledged their support and commitment towards nature. Master Prem Baraskar recited the oath that was repeated by all who were present at the event.
Fr. Principal concluded the event with words of praise for the organization of the event and a glowing vote of thanks.
